How long does the class take?  8 hrs.   I do give breaks after each 50 minutes of class time.

Do I have to shoot a revolver and a semi-auto?  Missouri law requires that you show marksmanship with both, and to do this requires shooting them both.  Kansas only requires you shoot a handgun, either type.

Do I need a holster?  No.  Individuals in the class range from experts to those who have never shot a gun before.  To safely draw and re-holster a gun requires hours of practice with an UNLOADED gun.  Obviously there is not time during this basic class to get to a safe proficiency level.  We do discuss how to do this however.

What if I don't have a gun?  No problem I can provide their use for class with only a small ammo charge.

Is this an approved NRA class?  No.  I am an NRA certified firearms instructor, however the NRA requires that their lesson plans be followed exactly in order for it to be considered an NRA class.  State law dictates the topics that must be covered to comply with the statute for obtaining a concealed carry permit.  All the material from the class is NRA material, but it is not presented in the time span and order required to be certified as an NRA class. It could be conducted as an NRA class, but to do so would make the class 10-12 hours long, therefore I don't qualify it as an NRA class.

Must I have prior shooting experience to take this class?  No. It is impossible for me to know the level of knowledge and proficiency of the student, so I must teach the basics first, and then advance to the next level.  In larger classes we will not have time to go past the basics.  In smaller classes we can often go slightly further.  You WILL need to practice and seek out more advanced training after you get your permit.  I know that some CCW classes are doing "Rambo" style training with attendees that they know nothing about.  I just hope that everyone in those classes is aware of the risks they incur.  My classes are geared to safety and full compliance with the training statutes of both Missouri and Kansas.

What do I get from your class that others don't offer?  I give every student a full copy in manual form of all the laws that they are required to be taught in class to keep.  I give them safety brochures.  I ensure that they are fully satisfied or give them a FULL unconditional refund in lieu of the course completion certificate.

I bore easy, is your class boring? Depends :)  Unlike some instructors I use a digital projector and a big screen as well as relevant DVD movies and clips. Not only does this make it more interesting but you retain more for longer when multi-media is used in an adult learning environment.

What if I don't pass the shooting test?  You must pass the shooting test in order to receive the course completion certificate.  The test is relatively easy to pass.  In the unlikely event that you did fail it I would work with you one on one until you where at a level that you could pass the test.  If time allowed this would be the same day, if not we would do it as your schedule allowed.  You would only owe range costs for additional training sessions if they were needed.

Where do you train at?  I don't own a range, but I do have business relationships in place with several area ranges that we can use depending on location and time of class, as well as size.

Do you teach by yourself?  Depends on class size.  For small classes I can safely do all the training.  For larger classes I often have several others assisting me, including certified instructors on the range.  All my staff are certified instructors not just paid help.

Can you fail a student?  Yes, the statute allows the instructor to decide if the student if failing to meet safety requirements or obey the instructor.  It has not happened so far, but if a student failed to obey the instructor and placed others at risk I would fail the student and remove him from class with a refund.  If the situation warranted it I would report the incident to his sheriff or AG so that it could be considered if he applied for a permit.  Permit holders are the gatekeepers of this law.  If we allow unqualified or unsafe individuals to endanger others we will eventually lose this right.

Do you teach advanced classes?  As a Certified Law Enforcement Handgun/Shotgun instructor I have the highest rating specified to teach Missouri Concealed Carry courses.  I can teach advanced material on a group or individual basis.  Contact me for details.

Who does your webpage?  I must confess that I do it, so must accept responsibility for any mistakes on it.  Please bring any you see to my attention.

Do you give regularly scheduled classes?  Yes.  I am a full time police officer and instruct on my time off.  I can generally provide a class to fit your schedule, including large groups, small groups, and private classes.  I generally schedule at least one public class a month.

What is Missouri Shooter LLC?  That is the company I formed in order to conduct these classes in a professional manner.  I formed the company, obtained insurance, and pay the proper taxes. I do not run a diploma mill and take my instruction seriously.  The fact that I treat it is a business I feel makes people more comfortable with my classes.

I really don't do well with crowds, can you still train me?  Yes I offer private classes, or you can get your family or friends together and we can schedule a small group class.  You will get much more individual one on one instruction that way and it is still affordable.

I can't do weekends, do you train during the week?  Yes.  I can even do late night classes from 5 or 6pm to 1 or 2 am.  I can also break the class into sessions over several days as long as we fully comply with the mandated state time and topic training requirements.

Can you train women who have never fired guns? Yes.  Women and men actually learn shooting differently because of the women's more complex brain connections.  Don't laugh, as a man I was initially dejected to learn they had more connections between the two sides.  I have trained myself to take this information and tailor my instruction to take advantage of it.  I also have a wife who is a former police officer, a certified instructor, and she helps with my classes.  If interested in training women to shoot guns you should read the excellent book on that subject: Teaching Women to Shoot by Vicki Farnam & Diane Nicholl, DTI Publications, Inc.  WWW.DTIPubs.com ISBN 0-9659422-3-6

I don't already own a gun but plan to buy one, should I buy one before your class?  I would suggest that you wait.  I will expose you to many topics and shooting fundamentals.  This exposure will help you pick a gun that best fits your hand and lifestyle.  It will not always be the one your thought prior to this instructional exposure. In class you can use my guns for a nominal ammo charge and will get to see other guns used by other students and how easy or hard they are to shoot.  You will know the advantages and disadvantages if any of different types.

This class is 8 hours long which seems long but I know people that train for weeks on guns, tactics and law, is 8 hours really enough? NO!  Eight hours is just the number of instruction hours that the states specified to apply for a permit.  It is maybe enough for the average person to know how and when to point a gun to use it for self defense.  After class you need to FULLY read and understand the laws before you carry a gun for self defense.  You need to practice shooting.  You need to take advanced classes.  Videos from www,gunvideo.com are helpful for home viewing.  Nothing is as good as having private one on one shooting instruction.  I can provide this either before or after this basic course.

Is there a written test?  Missouri does not require one.  Kansas does, but we fully cover all the material needed to pass the test with no problems.
