Many years ago individuals who sought employment as a Law Enforcement officer came from backgrounds where guns and shooting were an everyday fact of life.  Many also came to the profession after a stint in the military services.  Most were comfortable and proficient with handguns and long guns from this exposure.

Today and for some time in the past now this has not been the case.  We do still see those who have this comfort level and expertise, but more and more as time goes by we see recruits that have little or no firearms experience.  When you enter a Law Enforcement Academy you are in an environment where you will be exposed to intense college level academic material and intentionally induced stress as part of this curriculum to see whom can keep their composure when dealing with life and death situations on the streets.

On top of this you will have to become competent with firearms in a very short time.  Many people do not have any problems with this and pick it up very naturally.  Others just have too much on their plate, are less mechanically inclined, or need less stressful conditions in which to learn a skill which under stress deteriorates . The compressed time restraints of an academy setting often give little time to reach a competency level before they are dropped from the academy or allow themselves to get stressed out and voluntary drop.  All academies that I know have remedial training sessions, but even with these the student is  often overwhelmed.  Not only do you have your normal course work but you now have remedial sessions with the self imposed negative stigma students often attach to that.  Remedial should not be seen as such a negative situation but it is often human nature to view it as such.  It is if fact an effort by the academy staff to save your chosen career and the investment they have in you.  It is without a doubt still a stressful situation and learning under such conditions often is affected.  My training outside of the academy setting will be less stressful and more productive.

If you know you fit this profile or you just want to make sure you won't be one of those contact me for private coaching lessons.  If your already in a remedial course I will work with you to help you progress out of it while you have time.  I can train you in the basics of handguns and shotguns and make your goal of becoming an officer that much surer.  Unlike some private coaches I am a  Police Officer and I have the required training credentials to make sure you get the specific kind of training that will be compatible with what will be required of you at the academy.  I have also used my handgun in a lethal force encounter and have lessons to impart to you on that subject.

Both males and females can have problems with learning to use a firearm.  The training for females is however different for females than males.  They have very different physiological issues that must be known to understand why they may be having  problems.  Many instructors are clueless of these differences and thus fail to make progress.  Females also learn differently from a spatial point of view and even from just data input.  Their minds process the information differently.  Don't get me wrong their brains actually have more connections between the two parts and the instructor just needs to know how the student is perceiving the instructions.  I have researched this and applied it since I have been a firearms instructor and have never had a person fail to qualify in my classes that I teach.

My fees for this service understandably have to be negotiated individually as the time commitments and training locations have to fit the students budget, time, and schedule, as well as my own.
