The fight won't be the way you WANT it to be--it will be the way it is! You must adapt, improvise and overcome to survive.

"It has been my argument the whole time, and the argument of many smarter than me, that those who will apply to carry a concealed weapon are legitimate citizens.  Those that we fear carrying concealed weapons are carrying them anyway."

Jack Merritt

Greene Co. Mo. Sheriff

DID YOU KNOW
In 1856, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that local law enforcement had
no duty to protect individuals, but only a general duty to enforce the laws.
Source: South v Maryland, 59 US (HOW) 396, 15L.ED.433(1856)

In a recent newspaper article (March 2005) a major Metro Police dept. Listed their response times during peak periods as being in excess of 18 minutes!  How are you protecting yourself until Police Arrive?  I can give you options, both firearm related and non-firearm related.  Firearms are not always the answer.  I can give you the ability to formulate a personal safety plan that will fit your abilities.

Do you know what a Tueller Drill is?  Hint, it involves the 21 foot rule.

Its important to justified self defense and you will learn why in my class.

If I get a permit and forget to carry it and get stopped with a gun, what will happen?  Great question, come take my class to find out.  You will be surprised by the answer.

Is it true that an out-of state Concealed Carry permit is not a valid exemption to the federal gun free school zones?  Important information to know and  the answer is covered in my class.

Webster County MO, Sheriff Ron Worsham says he believes the laws should have been passed earlier to protect women from potential attackers. "And I think a large number of women, if they've been carrying a weapon of some kind, would still be alive today.

MISSOURI AND KANSAS are "SHALL ISSUE" states for Concealed Carry permits.  I am a qualified Instructor for the state mandated training that will allow you to apply for a Concealed Carry permit in Missouri, Kansas, or Florida.  My credentials include being a Law Enforcement Certified Firearms Instructor which is the highest level certification granted instructor status under our laws.  You have a choice of instructors, you should select one with the greatest level of certification and experience.  My regular range/classroom location is all at one quality indoor facility so there is no running from one place to another, shooting in 100 degrees, freezing, or in the rain.  When selecting an instructor price should not be your main consideration, look at the experience and credentials of the instructor.  This is a one time training event, but it will be a critical piece of evidence at any proceeding where you have to justify your basic training.  Go with a professional.  I have my credentials out for the world to see, do other instructors?  My 4+ year track record of 100% passage of CCW/CCH students speaks for itself.  I don't cut corners, I prepare each student to pass, not let them fail!  I offer a full money back guarantee if not satisfied for ANY reason!  Recently I have received disturbing calls about other instructors.  One did not show for the class at all, the other was 2 hours late to his own class, and the 3rd canceled class the night before because he didn't have enough students.  You can pay for a professional or you can take your chances with a hobby instructor... the choice and time are yours.  I don't cancel if I have any students signed up and have kept this record for over 4 years.  I understand that your time is as precious as my own, appreciate that you have chosen my company and my instructors for your training, and will not let you down.  I was one of the first instructors to start teaching Missouri residents and Kansas residents when they passed Concealed Carry.  If you are looking for the cheapest class out there you should pick one of the cheaper Hobby instructors who don't post their credentials.  If you want to be able to Stand Tall and tell the media after you have defended your family that you are a Sheepdog who did his DUTY and stood in the Breach, then I want you for my student!  I want students with that "Winning Mindset", I want the chance to help instill that in you or polish it if it already exists.

Firearms training has been referred to by some as the "Martial Arts" of the 21st century.  Nothing else has the ability to teach you to save yours or another's life against a much stronger or armed attacker in 8 hours!  You can spend years learning a traditional  empty hand martial art and have little chance of surviving an encounter with an attacker who is willing to use Deadly Force against you.  It is the great, and in many cases, the only equalizer.  The first rule of Gun Fighting is "Have a Gun."

Getting a permit is not for everyone.  It entails serious considerations  and preparation.  Don't let me discourage you, the actual training is within the abilities of most, it is the lifestyle decisions that most people wrestle with.  I can help you decide if it is the right decision for you without pressure. As a career law enforcement officer I have a vested interest in seeing that armed citizens receive the proper training.

Not everyone will be comfortable making the decisions required to carry a legally concealed gun.  Call or email me and I will discuss in detail any questions you may have.

 WHY TAKE MY CLASS?

I have over 28 years experience as a Police Officer and I am currently still working as a POST Certified Master Patrol Officer in the Kansas City area.  I am a member of the NRA,  the American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers (ASLET), which holds its members to the highest ethical standards of training, (IALEFI), International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors, and (ILEETA), the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association.  I help support our Right to Carry and the 2nd Amendment by my membership in the Western Missouri Shooters Alliance (WMSA).  I have been involved in and survived deadly force encounters, although with a bullet wound to remember one by. This hard learned lesson gave me first hand experience of why I want others to be able to protect themselves, just as I was able to do in that encounter.  I support responsible law abiding citizens having the same ability to protect themselves and their families that I enjoy.  My personal experiences as an officer, multiple current Firearm Instructor Certifications, and my understanding of the laws which will directly affect you, will prove that you have chosen the right trainer.  The state required class content is very basic material, the difference is whom you choose to be your state required trainer.  Keep in mind that learning to shoot a gun is the easy part, learning when not to shoot it is the difficult part.  If you are not completely satisfied with the training I will give you a full refund no excuses.  Please review my qualifications and feel free to contact me.  Remember that while car carry for those 21+ is now legal for many in Missouri, you still need to know what laws impact that right and responsibility.

I train you to "Refuse to be a Victim", to Stand in the Breach and do your Duty.   I know what it is like to be a student.  So far in the last 4 years I have attended five instructor level courses and have 28 years of other certified training in the field.  Not only does this make me more qualified with each class but it also reminds me what it is like to sit in class and learn new material.  Instructors who stop being students soon forget this and their courses and students suffer.

Hesitant to take the class alone, get a friend or spouse to go in with you and have more fun.  Yes FUN.  Learning the shooting basics will prepare you for a lifetime of Fun safe shooting that has the secondary ability to be a skill which you can use for self and family defense.  It may surprise some to learn that most who take this class have little or no experience with guns.  Some people who get trained will decide that getting a permit is not for them, however if you have a gun in your house the basics taught in this class will benefit you.  Still undecided?  Call me and ask me some questions or let me explain how I run my classes.  I breakout those that have no experience and get them one-on-one individual training that will allow them to successfully pass their shooting test.  I am proud of my 100% pass rate to date because it shows that the material is taught in a way that everyone can understand and that the learned material can be quickly applied  with the demonstrated passage of the shooting proficiency test required by the state.  Some instructors won't let you use your own handgun, establish qualification standards higher than state standards, set minimum caliber restrictions or add other non-statutory required hoops to jump through.  You have to ask yourself whose side are they on?  Self Defense is a God Given Right, the state laws are adequate so I don't set my own restrictive standards above state law so that I can call my class elite.  You can take the class with your grandpa's single action or your competition rigged bowling pin destroyer gun.

WHAT IF I HAVE NEVER FIRED A HANDGUN BEFORE?

That is actually great news, as it means you will have no problems to unlearn.  I have taught many individuals to shoot that have never fired before.  In fact my willingness to accept students for individual training is a plus, as many are embarrassed to go through the learning process with others watching.  The training standards for these state permits are actually very easy to meet.  I do not foresee anyone not qualifying.  Individuals with no shooting experience may need some time to become proficient with the mechanics of shooting a handgun, but I will work with everyone until they have passed.  Check out what my recent students had to say here.  With public classes I have three NRA Certified Pistol Instructors on the firing line including a Range Safety Officer (RSO).

IS THE TRAINING HARD AND STRESSFUL?

I am sure some instructors could make it that way, but not me.  I have sat through training classes of various kinds for 28 years.  I never retained much from the ones that ran theirs that way.  Shooting is a fun and safe sport if all the fundamental safety rules are known and followed.  Carrying a gun for protection is a serious matter, and one that should not be taken too lightly.  It is always a serious safety matter, but learning and applying the rules for gun safety are fundamental and easily learned.  In other trainers classes you will be asked not to ask off topic questions, so as not to slow down the rest of the class.  Why pay money to someone that does not have time to answer questions you feel are important while in training?  When it comes time to use a gun for self defense there will be NO time for questions.  In my classes questions are always welcome and encouraged.  Some will learn that carrying a gun for self defense is not for them, but will have learned the fundamentals of shooting and may decide that shooting as a sport is for them.  Regardless they will be better prepared to protect themselves with or without a gun.  Knowing what a gun can do and its limitations may help you survive being a victim of a gun involved crime.  You will be better able to factor in your survival options when faced with one.

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

I am located in Clay Co. Missouri, just north of the Missouri River in the Metro KC area, only 10 minutes from the Kansas/Missouri State line. My primary instructional facility is the Show-Me Shooters Range located near Worlds of Fun in Kansas City Missouri, which is no more than 45 minutes from anywhere in the KC Metro area.

I am approved to train residents of most Missouri counties already and am approved to train ALL Kansas residents regardless of county. If you live in a Missouri county that I am not already pre-approved to instruct in contact me and I will expedite getting approved in your county.  What does approved mean?  Missouri law did not specify that instructors be approved in any special way by Sheriffs, except that Sheriffs accept training credentials from qualified instructors as specified in the law.  Most Sheriffs departments are requiring instructors to have their lesson plan and credentials reviewed by them, and WILL NOT accept a training completion certificate from an instructor not approved by them.  Many instructors do not tell you this; if you have one saying they are qualified by law in all counties, call your county sheriff and ask.   Don't pay for training that WILL NOT be recognized. I am qualified in these Missouri counties.  I was also one of the first instructors approved by the Kansas Attorney Generals office to train Kansas residents.

WHAT DOES TRAINING CONSIST OF, WHERE DO YOU TRAIN AT, WHAT WILL I NEED?

Both Missouri and Kansas require that the training be for 8 hours, and consist of state required classroom and range instruction.   If you take this class seriously you will leave it knowing that you have successfully passed the required state minimal standards, AND that you will need to continue practicing on your own, or get more advanced training.  The state standards are the bare minimum and you WILL want more.  You will receive  a manual in binder form of state statutes covering use of force and laws to keep.  If you have a handgun you may use it for class, otherwise I can provide the handgun and ammunition for a small usage fee.  The Missouri law requires that you shoot both a semi-automatic and a revolver during training.  The Kansas law only requires you shoot one type.  I can provide the use of whichever you don't have if needed, or both.  Due to the slightly different state mandated requirements, I don't combine Missouri and Kansas residents in the same class.  You should signup for a Missouri class if you are a Missouri resident and a Kansas class if a Kansas resident.  Where you "work at" is immaterial as both states recognize each others permits after they are obtained.

If you are married and thinking of taking this class, seriously consider asking your spouse to take it with you.  You will have a partner to train with, and you will both be knowledgeable about gun safety which is recommended for everyone in a home with a gun.  Nothing says you have to get a Concealed Carry permit just because you have the training, or even that you need to carry a gun afterwards.  It is the goal of this class to keep you from ever having to use a gun on another person, but to prepare you if that need arises.

Still have questions?  Feel free to call or e-mail me.

Own a gun or thinking of buying one and just want a class to teach you about it? Take the CCW class as it contains hours more safety information than you would get in any other gun safety class.  It is suitable for all skill levels, even "never touched a gun before" beginners.

I use a big screen and a digital projector for the Power Point and DVD's that cover the lesson plan in addition to lecture and hands on application and a wireless microphone system so everyone can hear the lecture.

"Don,

This email is written to thank you for your expertise in weapons training last Saturday.  I enjoyed the variety of training skills you used, from lecture to power point, etc..  There was never a dull moment. Please thank your wife for the invaluable help she gave me on the shooting range.  I was a little nervous and she was very patient when helping me with my loading and shooting!" CWJ 09-29-06

Don, I just wanted to let you know that your class today was excellent and also very impressive.  A true family affair!!!  I have sat through many a class believe me, and the organization that you had, your extensive knowledge of the subject matter, and just as importantly your ability to present it in a laid back conversational style was an absolute joy.  Your syllabus is terrific, I can tell you took a lot of time creating it.  What made it more fun too, was that you related lots to real life stuff, and shared some of your 25 years on the KCPD.  I came into the class with a list of questions I wanted to ask about different things I was not quite sure about, but it's as if you read my mind...you answered every question I was going to ask...I was impressed!
